Sustainable futures people

Want.

This sunny poster I made was shown at the Tate Modern. It was part of a competition called #goodlife2030, asking for asked for optimistic visions of ‘a good life in 2030’ based on ‘interconnection’. Right up my street.

A reinterpretation of Matisse’s ‘The Dance’, this dance connects species and environments. It’s filled with movement, colour, contrast — Life. One dancer is based on a real-life dancing robot (google it!).

Visions of the future are too often tech-obsessed. Wondrous technology will form part of the future’s choreography but not the whole – it will be part of the dance alongside the ocean, air, ground, light, insects, rodents, reptiles, birds and mammals.

Not into dormice, dogs and dolphins? Remember: you literally are a dormouse 🫀

Decent visions of the future matter because they inspire engineers, investors, citizens and politicians. That's why everyone in Sillicon Valley is working on AI and/or hoverboards. If we can imagine a future where nature (us) thrives – a Good Life in 2030 – we can build it.

A shared line style connects the illustrations and typography – beings and time – as one entity. The poster aims for timelessness – a classic image, serif typeface and deep blue – while feeling futuristic and optimistic with bright colours and pops.
